Rise of Tiamat: An orgy of violence at Yuan-Ti HQ

For this sacrifice to work the pool will need to be filled with water and the sluice travels through the room beyond the bulging bronze doors. Vaeren ties some silk rope to one of the bulging door handles and readies himself to yank the door open, while Charles stands behind the door in case something dangerous comes out. Grim Greenangels and Kaisanne guard our prisoner. When he yanks the door open nearly a ton of boulders come tumbling out of the room, nearly pinning Charles against the far wall.

With some old fashioned muscle we clear the sluice allowing water to flow from the blessed well. When the well is filled Charles drags the Bearded Devil over to the edge and slits its throat. As the life blood empties into the water it begins to swirl and a ghostly figure rises from its center. The shade of Diderius says that he will answer one question as our sacrifice pleases him. We ask him the location of the White Dragon Mask. He tells us that the White Dragon Mask is in the hands of Verram at the Well of Dragons. With that the shade takes up the body of the devil and leaves the room, cackling about his freedom.

Vaeren convinces the rest of the companions that the remaining of the undead should be killed. We ready our weapons and enter the chamber in which Vaeren sensed several mummies and their lord. The room beyond has a raised dais upon which sits an finely carved stone sarcophagi surrounded by four glowing torches. After quickly finding nothing in the room we approach the dais when a voice booms out.

The yuan-ti have taken Verram to beyond their portal to the Northern Wall. Be prepared and I shall open the road to peril.”

A secret door opens in the far wall leading to a natural cavern. With only a quick nod to confirm that everyone is ready we step through. The chamber beyond is a guard room where several lizardfolk are waiting. With a measure of surprise we take kill most of them before they can react, only one manages to flee. We give chase until he reaches reinforcements strung out along a bridge. The natural choke-point would have been difficult except for Kaisanne’s fireball dropped into the middle.

The survivors, including two yuan-ti bowmen, steady themselves and defend the bridge. Charles points out that the bridge is dripping and slime-covered so passage will be difficult. Grim charges across the bridge to fight the yuan-ti, but slips and nearly falls over the edge – barely catching himself on the ledge at the last moment. Vaeren throws him a rope allowing him to scramble up while the rest of us kill the remaining yuan-ti. Crossing the bridge is difficult but we manage it.

Beyond the bridge is a long set of wide steps descending into the darkness. At the first branch the hallway undulates slightly, unnerving us, but we continue to press on. We reach a chamber where the sounds of slithering echo. Charles scouts forward finding a pit with an large birthing mother and a few attending females plus dozens of young. The abomination tries to turn him against his allies, but he calls down a fireball from Kaisanne. With the creatures damaged Vaeren steps to the ridge and hammers the mother with arrows. Lightning Bolts, Raging Barbarians, arrows and a glaive crackling with dark power are too much for the creature as it succumbs to its wounds.

Grim pushes ahead further down the corridor and hears the sounds of more lizardfolk. The battle leaves us exhausted and reluctant to press on any further without rest. We retreat to the lizardfolk guard chamber and rest for several hours.

After a rest we journey back into the darkness, avoiding the side corridor and continuing down the stairs. We reach divination chamber or temple to the yuan-ti gods. Two suits of plate are are genuflecting before the statues. Avoiding a very crude trap we enter the room. As we near the first statue hundreds of snakes come out of holes in the walls, filling up the suits of armor. The suits turn and attack us. Kaisanne retreats up the stairs to have room to cast her magic, while the rest of us bottle up the mouth stopping the Helmed Horrors from reaching her. They fall shortly after engaging us in battle.

There is only one door out of the room, which leads to a second further down the corridor. We hear noises behind the door and prepare for battle. This chamber is where the yuan-ti priestess and her attendants stay. They have barricaded themselves in which makes the battle difficult, but in the end we send her evil soul to the afterlife. With barely a moment to catch our breath we hear reinforcements coming down the corridor at the far side of the room. Kaisanne steps into the hallway and fireballs the lot. Before the yuan-ti and lizardfolk can recover Vaeren, Grim, and Charles charge – killing the survivors.

We push deeper through the corridor eventually reaching a great hall. Several yuan-ti shield themselves from our approach behind columns. An abomination is directing them from in front of an alter. Upon the alter lies an unconscious Verram.
